Lufthansa is introducing hand baggage fares. The new charge will be called Economy Light and will take place in other airlines policy: SWISS and Austrian Airlines.
Low-cost carriers have much earlier introduced additional fares such as hand luggage, seat or premium service fares. Thus Lufthansa follows their example and is planning to introduce a hand baggage basic economy fare from November 6th 2019. This change will allow passengers to fly with Lufthansa for a cheaper price with only carry on bag, which fits under the front seat.
What are the changes in Lufthansa fares?
The new fare will be introduced across the entire Lufthansa network, including SWISS and Austrian Airlines. This novelty is not new for the passengers travelling on Lufthansa between Europe and North America. Lufthansa has been offering this fare for these flights since summer last year.
The trip to North America on Lufthansa new Economy Light fare might be for a good price. Furthermore, passengers may additionally add one piece of checked baggage to your booking for a fee. Meals and beverages onboard are still free of charge when flying with Lufthansa Economy Light.
Every additional advantages such as seat selection will also be for an extra fee. However, financially it is more worthy to buy a full-fare compared to Economy Light together with all additional service.
How much will I win for choosing Lufthansa Economy Light?
The flight with Lufthansa Economy Light might be €50-€70 cheaper. Depending on your priorities, some low-cost carriers might offer a slightly lower flight price. However, Lufthansa flights will appear much cheaper on search engines and to resellers, pushing out the low-cost carrier competition.
